About the competition

The Rotary Avon Young Musician Award competition, run by eight Rotary Clubs from the former UK County of Avon and the surrounding area, is open to instrument or voice students aged 13 to 17 who can offer a predominantly classical music programme at ABRSM Grade 7 level or higher.  Heats take place in Bristol in November, with a Final in January.

As well as being a contest for performers, the Heats and the Final are open to the public in a series of outstanding concerts for those who love listening to fine music and admiring the skills of the region’s young musicians.

The Final of the 2023/2024 competition was held on Friday, January 19th 2024 in the Redland Hall at Redmaids' High School. Six remarkable instrumentalists, performing on oboe, recorder, bassoon and violin, provided the audience with an exciting and closely fought contest as well as an outstanding concert of highly varied music from the last four centuries.

The awards were presented by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Paula O'Rourke.
